What causes window wells to rust?

There is electricity in the ground. When the window well is connected to the foundation, sometimes it contacts a piece of rebar, which conducts this electricity through the window well, causing it to rust.

How do you make sure it doesn't happen again?

We use a meter to detect the electrolysis activity in the ground to make sure its flows are stopped—hence eliminating the possibility of the window well becoming what is called a “sacrificial annode” – where rusting develops and eventually overcomes the entire well, leading to its total collapse.

Because of this kind of testing and the way we install your replacement window wells, we can guarantee they will never rust again.

Egress Covers and Ladders
Rusted Window Well Testing and Replacement

If some or all of your window wells need covers or egress ladders, we can get those for you. Heavy-duty covers and ladders that meet local construction and safety codes are available for a variety of common window well sizes.

We use the best window wells, covers, and ladders in the world, from Bowman Kemp, manufactured in nearby Ogden, Utah.
